“Joy” by Laura Debbink

12” X 16”; Watercolor and ink on paper; 2021

(Available in print only.)

Bluebirds hold special significance to me. Bluebirds represent joy. In 2020, I made my motto for the year: “Find the joy.” (And the universe laughed and said, “Challenge accepted!”) Sometimes I had to look really hard for it, and often found it in the most unexpected places. Sometimes it felt like it was deliberately hiding. Other times it had been right out in the open all along and I just hadn’t seen it. The thing I learned is that there is always joy to be found as long as I am willing to look for it.

“The Baron” by Laura Debbink

11”x17”, Acrylic on canvas, 2020

Owls are the embodiment of duality: powerful and soft, solemn and silly, present and hidden. The are the Watchers of the Woods, surveying all from their perch above, conducting their lives while the world sleeps. “The Baron” perches on his branch, watching the stars come out with one eye open and the other closed, looking outward and inward at the same time.

“Tranquility” by Laura Debbink

24” x 36”; Acrylic on canvas; 2018

Translucent gold shimmers like sunlight dancing on water. Teals and blues flow across the canvas, subtly contrasted by streams of pink and purple. "Tranquility” evokes the peaceful sensation of being underwater and looking up through gentle waves in that brief moment just before sunset, when the colors of the sky begin to melt together and fade into night.

Hello, I’m Laura,

LauraDebbink.jpg

I am an artist from Thiensville, WI. I paint predominantly in acrylic and watercolor, and also dabble in fluid art. My work is most often inspired by nature, particularly birds, and I love to use bright, vibrant colors that reflect the joy I find in nature and in painting. I sincerely hope my work brings you joy, too! Thank you for visiting!
